A devastating accident occurred on Thursday night outside the Gainesville, Georgia home of Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old math teacher at North Hall High School. Hughes had stepped outside around 11:40 PM after observing a group of five teenagers engaged in a prank, involving toilet paper draped over his trees.
As the teenagers attempted to flee the scene in two vehicles, Hughes tripped and fell into the roadway. Tragically, he was then struck by a car driven by 18-year-old Jayden Ryan Wallace. Wallace, along with other teens, attempted to provide aid before emergency services arrived.
Hughes was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries. Wallace was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering. Four other 18-year-olds were arrested on charges of criminal trespass and littering.
Remembered as a devoted husband and father of two sons, Hughes was also cherished as a mentor by his students. A memorial has been established at North Hall High School, and a GoFundMe campaign has been created to support his family, raising nearly $67,000 by Sunday morning.
