- He was attacked while rock jumping with friends at Nielsen Park.
- His friends bravely rescued him from the water during the incident.

A 12-year-old boy, identified as talented soccer player Nico Antic, suffered life-threatening injuries after a shark attack on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at Nielsen Park in Sydney's eastern suburbs when Nico was rock jumping from a six-meter ledge with five friends. He was mauled, sustaining severe injuries to both legs.
One of Nico's friends heroically jumped into the water to pull him onto a rock platform while the shark remained nearby. Family and friends have confirmed the catastrophic nature of his injuries and have set up a fundraiser to support the family with medical expenses. Nico has been a dedicated player for Goal Soccer Academy for seven years, representing the club in various tournaments.
This attack is the first of four shark encounters on NSW coastlines within three days. The police have issued a warning against swimming in murky, low-visibility waters, especially after heavy weekend rain, which, combined with rock jumping, created a 'perfect storm' for the attack. Heavy swells have also impacted the operation of shark detection smart drumlines.
