A year after a devastating car crash, a 28-year-old woman from B.C.'s Okanagan has successfully located and thanked the anonymous off-duty RCMP officer who was first on the scene. Haley Kaufman, along with her mother-in-law and infant daughter, were critically injured in the collision outside Williams Lake on May 4, 2025.
Kaufman sustained severe injuries, including broken bilateral femurs and internal bleeding, while her daughter suffered a brain injury leading to multifocal epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Her mother-in-law also experienced multiple fractures. The long road to recovery has been challenging for the entire family, with the daughter requiring extensive hospital care.
Kaufman dedicated the past 18 months to finding and personally thanking all the first responders involved in their rescue. Her persistent search led her to the anonymous officer, who recalled the incident vividly and expressed that Kaufman was the first person in his 11-year career to reach out and thank him. This reunion has provided Kaufman with a profound sense of peace and closure.
