A horrific accident unfolded at the Surajkund Mela when a giant amusement swing malfunctioned and crashed to the ground on Saturday evening. The catastrophic failure resulted in the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad, a 59-year-old police officer who was mere weeks away from retirement. He lost his life while bravely attempting to rescue individuals trapped on the ride.
The swing collapsed around 6 pm with approximately 19 people on board, sending screams and panic through the festive atmosphere. At least 11 other individuals, including police personnel and visitors from various locations, sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. This incident followed another safety failure earlier in the day, when Gate Number 2 of the fairgrounds collapsed, injuring a child and another person.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the multiple safety lapses at the renowned Surajkund International Crafts Mela. The Chief Minister of Haryana expressed deep sorrow and assured support for the affected families and injured victims. The tragic events have raised serious concerns about safety standards at the large-scale cultural exhibition.
