Sunset Strip Reopens After Major Water Main Break

A section of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, closed for over a week due to a severe water main break, is scheduled to reopen Friday evening. The rupture of a 36-inch pipe caused extensive flooding and damage, leading to a massive sinkhole and significant disruption. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews have been actively repairing the infrastructure, carefully refilling and monitoring the pipe. Water quality tests are ongoing to ensure safety standards are met before the pipe is returned to full service.

While the street is expected to reopen with temporary paving, officials have stated that permanent repaving, along with repairs to a nearby bus pad and sidewalk, will be completed in the coming weeks. Commuters and businesses in the traffic-heavy area have experienced considerable impacts. Road closures remain in effect, and the public is still urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
