Summary

- The cause of the fire remains inconclusive due to safety concerns.
- Surrounding roads were closed as dozens of firefighters tackled the fire.

A substantial fire broke out in a derelict three-storey building on Stafford Street in Stoke-on-Trent city centre during the early hours of July 10th, 2026. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that approximately 40 firefighters were mobilized to the scene. They worked diligently to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent properties. The fire primarily impacted the first and second floors, as well as the loft area. Firefighters had to remove roof tiles to effectively combat the blaze.
As of July 10th, 2026, the fire has been extinguished, though crews remained on-site to address any lingering hot spots. Unfortunately, a comprehensive investigation into the fire's origin is currently impeded. The fire service stated that "the structural integrity of the building" makes a full inspection unsafe, leaving the cause of the incident inconclusive for the time being. The incident led to the temporary closure of several roads in the Hanley area.
