A three-year-old cocker spaniel named Aggie has been safely rescued after enduring a perilous night alone on a Scottish mountain. Aggie was with walkers on Fionn Bheinn, near Achnasheen, on Sunday when she plunged through a cornice, an overhanging snow ledge, close to the summit. While her human companions and other dogs descended, Aggie remained missing. Fears grew for her survival as temperatures dropped to below minus 10C with wind chill.
Fortunately, Aggie survived the brutal night, believed to have curled into a ball on an exposed corrie. On Monday, three dedicated members of the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue team volunteered to return to the mountain. With assistance from a local deer stalker who transported them partway up the hill, the team successfully located Aggie. She was found alive, though described as "a little cold," approximately 10 metres from the ridge where the group had fallen. The rescue team leader remarked on the amazing resilience of dogs in survival mode.
