A catastrophic train collision in southern Spain has resulted in a death toll of 40 people, with numerous others hospitalized and receiving medical treatment. The tragic incident took place in Adamuz, Cordoba, involving two trains operated by different companies. One train, operated by private company Iryo, derailed and collided with a state-run Renfe train traveling in the opposite direction.
Rescue operations were immediately launched as passengers were trapped in the wreckage. Of the 41 patients remaining hospitalized, 13 are in intensive care. Investigations into the cause of the initial derailment are actively underway. Officials have noted a broken section of track, but it remains unclear whether this was the cause or a consequence of the derailment. Human error and speeding have been ruled out as factors.
