Aspiring Singer Killed Days Before Apple Music Deal
17 Mar
Summary
- A 27-year-old singer died in a crash just days before a career-launching meeting.
- Her family criticized trolls for posting footage of her receiving CPR online.
- An inquest found no alcohol but noted her car accelerated before impact.

Aspiring singer Soriah Barry, aged 27, tragically lost her life on February 8, 2025, following a collision with a double-decker bus in East London. Ms. Barry was driving down Lea Bridge Road shortly before 7 am when her car veered into the stationary bus. The impact was severe enough to dislodge the bus driver from her cab.
An inquest heard that Ms. Barry, described by friends as a careful driver, was not under the influence of alcohol. It remains unclear why her car unexpectedly accelerated from 23mph to 35mph in the moments before the crash. Her family suspects a distraction may have caused her to miss braking and instead hit the accelerator.
Ms. Barry's mother voiced significant concerns regarding the delay in her daughter receiving medical attention, noting it took two hours to reach the hospital. She also condemned social media users who filmed Ms. Barry receiving CPR and posted it online, alongside cruel comments, causing further anguish to the grieving family.
Apple Music has since confirmed plans to release Ms. Barry's R&B music posthumously as a tribute to her talent. The coroner concluded that Ms. Barry died from internal bleeding and severe liver damage, and she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
