A work vehicle collided with the rear of a stationary Silver Line Metro train just after midnight on Wednesday, injuring 11 of the 27 passengers on board. Emergency officials responded to the Metro Center station to assist the injured.
Metro officials confirmed that all 11 passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No Metro staff were seriously hurt in the incident.
Commuters should anticipate significant delays on the Orange and Blue lines in both directions, as trains will be single-tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.
Silver Line service is currently restricted to operating between Ashburn and Clarendon. Riders traveling towards New Carrollton and Downtown Largo are advised to use the Orange Line.
