A fire that impacted a field and woodland area in Shropshire has been largely controlled, with discarded glass bottles suspected as the cause. The incident occurred in High Hatton, near Hodnet, and prompted a response from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on Wednesday afternoon. Multiple crews were initially dispatched after reports of the blaze, which quickly grew, sending a large column of smoke visible from afar.
The fire consumed approximately 100 square metres of stubble, grass, and undergrowth before reaching adjacent woodland. Due to its rapid spread and the challenges in containment, additional firefighters were deployed to assist. Market Drayton Fire Station confirmed that the situation was brought under control about an hour after the first firefighters arrived on the scene. No one was harmed during the event.
