Shimla Landslide Blocks Key Road, Traffic Halted

Incessant rainfall in Himachal Pradesh led to a significant landslide on Shimla's busy Cart Road near the Lift on Tuesday. The blockage halted vehicular movement for approximately one hour before authorities cleared the debris and restored traffic flow. This event highlights the widespread impact of heavy downpours across the state.
As of Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh faced extensive disruptions with over 230 roads remaining closed. Additionally, around 250 electricity distribution transformers were affected, and more than 90 water supply schemes were impacted. The state disaster management authority confirmed that five people died in a car accident in the Banikhet area of Chamba district due to the adverse weather conditions. Flash floods also disrupted normal life in Chamba town.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning for heavy rainfall over the next three days, placing the state on high alert. Emergency measures have been activated, and teams with machinery are deployed. Restoration work for affected infrastructure is ongoing, with numbers gradually decreasing.
