A scuba diver from Oahu has died following an incident off the coast of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii island. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Charles Hutchinson of Honolulu, was scuba diving near Ellison Onizuka International Airport on Wednesday when he experienced trouble.
Witnesses reported that Hutchinson was brought aboard a fishing vessel after encountering difficulties in the water. He became unresponsive and, despite life-saving measures including CPR and an AED, was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital. Police have initiated a coroner's inquest investigation and an autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, though foul play is not suspected.
