The Savannah River Site Fire Department (SRSFD) recently earned top honors, securing first place in the Fire Department category at the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Active Assailant Response workshop. This significant event, held from May 4-8, convened leading fire departments and protective force teams from throughout the NNSA Enterprise.
The workshop's primary objective was to evaluate compliance with the NNSA Enterprise Mission Essential Task List for active assailant response. It also served as a crucial platform for enhancing collaboration and mutual understanding between diverse emergency response units, including the SRSFD and Centerra personnel.
Over five intensive days, participants engaged in 14 distinct events, comprising 11 graded scenarios and three large-scale exercises. These activities progressively tested participants' skills, culminating in realistic, high-pressure simulations that demanded integrated team efforts. SRSFD's collective expertise and seamless teamwork were highlighted as key factors in their success.
Following their triumph, SRSFD representatives plan to share the newly acquired knowledge and innovative techniques with their colleagues. This initiative aims to bolster the department's internal emergency response capabilities and reinforce existing partnerships, thereby enhancing overall site security and community safety. SRSFD Fire Chief Travis Scott expressed immense pride in his team's dedication and professionalism.
