Four people were killed and over ten injured in a horrific accident in Bihar's Saran district late Sunday night. An 18-wheeler truck, reportedly speeding, collided with an e-rickshaw on National Highway 722 near a toll plaza in Bheldi police station limits. The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw was destroyed, resulting in the immediate death of three occupants. A cyclist was also struck and killed by the out-of-control truck.
The victims were identified as Farooq Mian, his daughter-in-law Shaheeda Khatoon, granddaughter Shana Parveen, and cyclist Suresh Pandit. The injured have been admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The truck, traveling from Maker towards Chhapra, is reported to have lost control before the collision. It also damaged an 11,000-volt electricity pole.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene following the accident. Police reached the spot, and the crash caused a significant traffic jam, with hundreds of vehicles stranded. Protesting locals initially blocked the road, but authorities managed to pacify them and clear the highway. Investigations are underway to apprehend the driver.
