A pilot sustained non-life-threatening injuries after his single-engine plane crashed near the Santa Paula Airport on June 27. Ventura County Fire Department officials reported that the pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was able to free himself from the wreckage.
Due to the plane's location in the Santa Clara River bottom, a helicopter was deployed to airlift the pilot to the airport. From there, he was transported by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura for treatment. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m.
Officials stated that the cause of the crash is currently unknown, and it is unclear if the pilot was attempting to land the aircraft at the time. The plane had taken off from Glendale prior to the incident.
