Lifeguard Heroism: 25 Rescued From 10-Foot Swells

On Saturday, lifeguards executed a significant rescue operation along the Santa Cruz coastline, saving a total of 25 individuals from perilous ocean conditions. The event unfolded at Seabright Beach, where breaking waves were recorded by the National Weather Service as reaching heights of up to ten feet. Dramatic video footage captured a lifeguard being overcome by a wave while attempting to guide a swimmer ashore. The situation escalated as good Samaritans also entered the water to help, with one bystander also being engulfed by the powerful surf.

Witnesses described bystanders forming a human chain to assist, demonstrating a collective effort to manage the crisis. However, a lifeguard supervisor from Santa Cruz State Parks emphasized the potential dangers of untrained civilians entering the water during such events, noting that it can sometimes create additional complications.
