Plane Window Shatters Mid-Air, Passenger Pulled Out
27 Jul
Summary
- Passenger injured after plane window broke at 20,000ft.
- Wife pulled husband back in as he lost consciousness.
- Airline offered only flight rebooking after emergency.

A terrifying mid-air emergency unfolded on July 10 when a Ryanair flight experienced a catastrophic window failure at 20,000 feet. The aircraft, FR1879, was en route from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, when the incident occurred.
Passenger Ljubisa Karovic, 61, suffered neck and shoulder injuries after being partially ejected through the broken window. His wife, Svetlana Grković, recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating she had to pull her husband back into the cabin as he repeatedly lost consciousness.
Karovic, now wearing a neck brace for at least six weeks, has alleged a lack of direct concern from Ryanair. He stated that the airline's communication has been limited to emails to his son, who booked the tickets, inquiring about rebooking and his condition.
Fellow passengers described hearing a loud bang before the window ruptured. The Boeing 737 safely returned to Thessaloniki, where Karovic was met by medical personnel and taken to the hospital. Ryanair declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
