Firefighters have heightened patrols in woodlands after responding to more than a dozen fires in a single area within a week. Between May 22 and May 31, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called six times to incidents behind Willmott Road in Rushden, extinguishing over 15 separate seats of fire.
During the same period, the service dealt with 38 deliberately-started fires throughout the county. These increased callouts occurred during the half-term school break, prompting an appeal to parents to educate their children about the severe risks associated with starting fires.
Andy Evans from the fire service and the Police Arson Task Force highlighted that arson endangers lives and property and strains emergency resources. He stressed that engaging in arson can result in criminal records, substantial fines, or even imprisonment, urging parents to be aware of the signs and discuss these risks with their children.
