A man is in critical condition after being attacked by a shark at Rottnest Island, a popular tourist destination situated 19km off the coast of Fremantle. The incident took place near Perth around 10 am on Saturday.
The man, who is in his 30s, was transported by boat to shore at Geordie Bay. A rescue helicopter arrived on the island to facilitate his evacuation to a mainland hospital.
Surf Life Saving WA reported that a five-meter white shark was sighted approximately 80 meters offshore at the time of the attack. Authorities have advised increased caution for people in the Geordie Bay area.
