Motorist Attacks Road Worker with Chainsaw During Storm Amy

On October 4th, 2025, a road worker in the Scottish Highlands was the victim of a shocking assault while trying to clear trees during the height of Storm Amy. According to police, the incident occurred around noon as the worker was operating a chainsaw on the A82 road near Spean Bridge.
A motorist, described as a white male in his 40s or 50s, approached the worker and forcefully pushed him into a nearby ditch. Authorities condemned the "outrageous and dangerous" attack, which left the victim fortunately uninjured despite the hazardous conditions.
Inspector Katy Duncan stated the worker was simply doing his job to reopen the road network, which had been crippled by the powerful storm. She called the motorist's behavior "completely unacceptable" and urged anyone with information to come forward.
The suspect is believed to have spoken with a French or Italian accent and was driving a grey, left-hand-drive Renault van with a foreign license plate. Police are asking witnesses to check their dashcam footage for potential sightings of the vehicle.
Storm Amy has caused widespread disruption across Scotland, leaving over 85,000 homes without power and blocking numerous roads and railways. Authorities are still working to restore services and clear the extensive damage.
