- A seven-hour complex rescue operation involved helicopter and rappelling.

A harrowing seven-hour rescue operation unfolded in Red Rock Canyon on Saturday after a rock climber fell an estimated 40 to 50 feet. The injured climber, found approximately 600 feet up a multipitch route, sustained severe head and back injuries. Authorities credit the climber's helmet, which was destroyed, with likely preventing a fatality.
Rescuers utilized a helicopter to reach a point above the victim, from where they rappelled down to administer medical care. The climber was secured in a specialized litter and lowered hundreds of feet using multiple anchor points. Additional volunteers assisted in carrying the litter across rugged terrain to a final extraction point. The climber was airlifted to a local hospital and is reported to be recovering well.
