16 Feb
Summary
- An 83-year-old man died in a fast-moving Queens fire.
- Firefighters faced challenges with a non-working hydrant.
- A car parked on a hydrant complicated the firefighting efforts.

A devastating fire erupted in Queens on Sunday night, claiming the life of an 83-year-old man. The blaze broke out just before 7:30 p.m. on 78th Street in Elmhurst, quickly engulfing the building.
Firefighters arrived to find flames spreading rapidly and located the elderly victim inside a smoke-filled rear bedroom. Despite immediate rescue efforts and attempts to administer CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The firefighting operation was hampered by critical challenges. Responders dealt with a non-working fire hydrant and a car that had been parked illegally on top of another hydrant, significantly impeding their ability to combat the inferno. The fire was eventually brought under control, and its cause is currently under investigation.
