A tragic fire in Flushing, Queens, on Monday resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a three-year-old child, and left a dozen others injured. The inferno began around 12:30 PM, rapidly consuming all three floors of a brick apartment building.
Emergency services mounted a significant response, with approximately 230 firefighters and paramedics rushing to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 2:45 PM. During the firefighting efforts, five firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries after a staircase collapsed, trapping two of them.
FDNY fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the devastating blaze. Several residents were displaced due to the significant damage to the building. The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatalities, including whether any resulted from attempts to escape the building.
