In Pune's Dhayari area, a 40-year-old man identified as Akshay Chavan sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The incident took place around 2:30 AM on Wednesday near Nanded-Wadgaon Road when Chavan, heavily inebriated, fell off his two-wheeler. A group of seven to eight stray dogs immediately attacked him, causing severe wounds to his head and face.
Despite lying injured and bleeding for several hours, no passersby alerted authorities. It was only when sanitation workers spotted him around 9 AM that the police were notified. Chavan was subsequently transported to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors reported serious head and facial trauma.
Medical officials stated Chavan was initially admitted as an unidentified patient and remained unstable, later being moved to the trauma intensive care unit. Pune Municipal Corporation officials announced plans to capture, observe, and vaccinate the stray dogs involved to prevent further incidents and screen for rabies.
