Summary
- A permanent memorial for the Pulse nightclub tragedy is now underway.
- The city took over the project, dedicating $3 million to acquire land.
- The memorial, with 49 pillars, is slated for completion by September 2027.

A permanent memorial to the 49 lives lost at the Pulse nightclub is set to be completed by September 2027, nearly a decade after the June 12, 2016, tragedy. The city of Orlando has taken over the project after the previous foundation collapsed, investing $3 million to acquire the nightclub property and adjacent land.
Renderings unveiled recently showcase a design that includes a prominent arc of 49 pillars, each inscribed with the names of the victims, encircling a reflecting pond. A visitor's center will narrate the events, beginning with the seemingly ordinary evening at the LGBTQ-friendly club. The building itself is scheduled for demolition by the end of this month, marking a significant step forward for the memorial.
Orange County has committed $5 million to the project. While the design is approximately 30% complete, city leaders aim for a memorial that honors the victims and reflects Orlando's spirit of unity in the face of hate. The process has been lengthy, with some donations initially intended for the memorial being mismanaged by the former onePulse Foundation.
