Jet Door Lost Mid-Flight, Found on Farmland
18 Oct
Summary
- A private jet issued a distress call at 3,000 feet due to a mid-air door incident.
- The missing aircraft door was later discovered on a nearby farmland.
- Nigerian aviation investigators have launched an inquiry into the event.

A private jet operating for Triton Aviation made an emergency return to Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, October 15, after its door opened mid-flight. The aircraft had just taken off and was climbing to approximately 3,000 feet when the crew transmitted a "mayday, mayday, mayday" distress call.
Air traffic control rerouted the plane back to its departure airport. The flight, which was bound for Lagos, landed safely just 14 minutes after the distress call was made. Emergency crews were on standby.
Following the safe landing, airport personnel discovered the aircraft's door was missing. The lost door was subsequently located on a nearby stretch of farmland. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
Nigeria's aviation accident investigation bureau has initiated a probe into the incident to determine the precise cause, considering possibilities such as mechanical failure or maintenance issues.
