Prayagraj Begins Drainage Network Review Post-Deluge
20 Aug
Summary
- City administration to review and propose new drains.
- Intensive cleaning of major drains ordered post-siphoning.
- Fogging and preventive measures planned for disease control.

Prayagraj experienced significant relief on Thursday as dry weather allowed accumulated rainwater to drain from most streets and neighborhoods. The city administration has initiated a comprehensive review of its drainage network, prompted by recent widespread waterlogging. A proposal for new drains is expected following a detailed survey once floodwaters have completely receded.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma emphasized the thorough cleaning of major drains post-dewatering. Municipal staff worked diligently, clearing blockages and ensuring the flow of rainwater, even breaking open some drains. Continuous pumping operations and the operational status of pumping stations are being monitored closely. Officials have been directed to clean drains and nullahs urgently to prevent future blockages.
In response to prolonged waterlogging, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation will conduct intensive fogging in affected areas. Cleaning, lime sprinkling, and other preventive measures are being implemented to curb the potential outbreak of water-borne and vector-borne diseases. The administration will maintain vigilance in vulnerable areas and ensure swift responses to any new waterlogging reports. Traffic and pedestrian movement are being prioritized for safety.
