Powerful Earthquake Hits Mexico's Gulf, Minimal Damage Reported

On November 4, 2025, a powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Gulf of California off the coast of Mexico. The quake, which had a depth of 6.2 miles, was centered approximately 46.6 miles northeast of the town of Santa Rosalía.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake posed a "low likelihood of casualties and damage," with a "green alert" issued for shaking-related impacts. Mexico is known to be one of the world's most seismically active regions, situated atop three major tectonic plates.
In the days prior, the Indonesian coast was also hit by a series of earthquakes ranging from 4.7 to 5.9 magnitude, though no injuries or damage were reported. Similarly, nearly two dozen quakes struck off the coast of Russia near the Kamchatka Peninsula, with magnitudes between 4.3 and 6.1, but without any significant consequences.
The most severe recent quake occurred on Sunday in northern Afghanistan, where a 6.3 magnitude tremor killed at least 20 people as homes were reduced to rubble. Overall, while seismic activity continues to rattle various regions, the latest incident in Mexico's Gulf of California appears to have resulted in minimal impact.
