On November 4, 2025, a powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Gulf of California off the coast of Mexico. The quake, which had a depth of 6.2 miles, was centered approximately 46.6 miles northeast of the town of Santa Rosalía.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake posed a "low likelihood of casualties and damage," with a "green alert" issued for shaking-related impacts. Mexico is known to be one of the world's most seismically active regions, situated atop three major tectonic plates.
