However, initial data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) estimated the quake's magnitude at 6.07 and placed its depth at around 10 kilometers.
Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported so far from the earthquake. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued cyclone warnings for the islands over the past few weeks, heightening alert levels in the region. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and providing updates as the situation develops.
The Andaman Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal, are no stranger to seismic activity. The region sits along the boundary of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates, making it prone to earthquakes.
