Fortunately, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that there was no tsunami threat following the quake. However, local officials have cautioned that aftershocks are expected in the coming days, urging residents to remain vigilant.
As of now, no immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been received, but inspections are underway across Cebu and neighboring provinces. The Philippines, which lies on the 'Ring of Fire' – a belt of volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean that is prone to seismic activity – experiences frequent earthquakes, though most are too weak to be felt by humans. Strong and destructive quakes, however, can strike at random, with no technology available to predict when and where they might occur.
