Thousands of Pools Recalled for Serious Drowning Hazard

A significant recall has been issued for 13,400 Blue Wave above-ground swimming pools, specifically models 48 inches and taller. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identified a critical design flaw where the external compression strap can be used as a foothold, creating a drowning risk for children.
These affected pools were sold at major retailers nationwide and online between January 2021 and July 2025. The CPSC is strongly advising owners of the 15 specific recalled models to immediately request a free repair kit from Blue Wave Products. While no injuries have been reported for these specific pools, this recurring issue has sadly resulted in at least nine deaths over the past 15 years across various brands.
Acting CPSC Chairman Peter A. Feldman emphasized the urgency, urging families to stop using the pools immediately and install the repair kits, even outside of swim season. He stated that under new leadership, the CPSC is committed to tackling preventable child deaths. Consumers can contact Blue Wave via phone or email to obtain their free repair kit.
