Faulty Petzl Harnesses Pose Serious Fall Risk
15 May
Summary
- Faulty buckles and attachments on climbing harnesses pose fall hazards.
- Over 5,000 Petzl harnesses sold in Canada are affected by the recall.
- No injuries reported, but immediate discontinuation of use is advised.

Health Canada has announced a recall affecting several models of Petzl climbing harnesses, citing potential fall hazards due to faulty components. Over 5,000 units sold in Canada over recent years are impacted. Specific issues include a pin in the D-ring that could release, causing the attachment point to open, and a missing rivet in buckles that could lead to them opening unexpectedly.
The affected harnesses include the Petzl Astro and Canyon Guide models, sold between March 2018 and October 2023. Also recalled are the Petzl Simba Park, Simba Climbing, Simba Park, Swan Easyfit Steel, and Swan Easyfit Stainless harnesses, with two Simba models specifically designed for children. These were sold from July 2021 to November 2025.
While the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or the United States related to these recalls, Health Canada strongly advises consumers to cease using the harnesses immediately. The faulty buckles and attachments present a serious risk that could lead to severe injury or death.
