Summary
- Operation to recover stranded Resolute ship nears completion.
- Specialist contractors systematically cut vessel into sections for recycling.
- Pollution prevention measures monitored, fuel transferred ashore.

The complex operation to recover the stranded vessel, the Resolute, off the coast of Pembrokeshire is nearing completion. The 24m guard boat for an offshore wind farm had run aground in rough seas on December 11 last year near Fishguard. Four crew members were rescued at the time.
Specialist marine contractors Jevington Logistics commenced the recovery on June 29. They employed an excavator with shears mounted on a barge to cut the ship into large sections. These sections were then further reduced in size using oxy-propane torches before being sent for recycling. Approximately 110 tonnes of steel are expected to be salvaged from the "well-built" ship.
Environmental precautions were a priority, with the majority of the Resolute's fuel transferred ashore in February. Pollution prevention measures, including a perimeter boom, were monitored and approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The dismantling approach was chosen due to the ship's hull having "some quite big holes."
