Dog Food Recall: Metal & Plastic Hazard
7 Jul
Summary
- Nationwide recall issued for dog food containing metal and plastic fragments.
- Two lots of Pedigree brand food were fraudulently diverted to the U.S. market.
- Consuming fragments can cause choking, lacerations, or gastrointestinal blockages.

Multiple lots of dog food are being recalled nationwide due to concerns over metal and plastic fragments that could harm pets. Mars Petcare US initiated a voluntary recall on July 2 for two specific lots of Pedigree-branded food. These cans were found to contain sharp metal and plastic foreign material during testing.
Instead of being disposed of, these contaminated products were fraudulently diverted and subsequently sold into the U.S. market. The company is cooperating with federal authorities to investigate this diversion. While no injuries or deaths have been reported, the ingestion of these fragments could lead to choking, lacerations, or gastrointestinal tract blockages.
Pet owners who have purchased the affected products should immediately stop feeding them to their pets. They are instructed to contact Pedigree directly at 1-800-525-5273 to arrange for a replacement. If pet owners suspect their animal has consumed the contaminated food, they should consult a veterinarian.
