Peak District Ice Snares Two: Rescues for Fractured Neck & Leg

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members were deployed to the Peak District on Tuesday night to respond to two challenging rescues caused by icy conditions. In Fairfield, 14 volunteers assisted a person who had slipped and sustained a suspected fractured neck. The casualty was treated for pain relief and mild hypothermia before being carefully transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Earlier that day, the team had already been called to a separate incident above Derbyshire Bridge. Here, a walker had fallen on ice, resulting in a fractured left leg. Rescuers splinted the injury and administered pain relief before carefully moving the individual along snowbound roads to meet an ambulance.

Both operations required significant effort from the 14-strong volunteer team, who were on scene for approximately two hours for the first incident. The team expressed gratitude to local residents for their support during these demanding call-outs, highlighting the hazardous conditions prevalent in the area.
