Ganga Floods Patna Vendors' New Spot
21 Aug
Summary
- Vendors were moved to the JP riverbank due to traffic concerns.
- Rising Ganga waters have now flooded the JP riverbank, impacting business.
- A permanent vending zone is yet to be developed by the PMC.

Vendors who were relocated to Patna's JP riverbank due to traffic concerns on Marine Drive are now facing a new crisis as the Ganga River's water level rises. The JP riverbank, intended as a temporary location until a designated vending zone is established, has been flooded over the past three days. This flooding has made it difficult for vendors to operate, resulting in a sharp decline in customers and an inability to conduct business.
Street vendors in Patna have expressed frustration over the Patna Municipal Corporation's (PMC) inaction in developing a permanent vending zone. Citing safety hazards and a complete lack of customers, vendors are considering returning to their original spots on Marine Drive. The site initially designated for the vending zone is reportedly being used for parking lot development, while another potential area near Atal Path is under consideration.
PMC commissioner Yashpal Meena suggested a temporary relocation to Tourist Ghat, where a raised platform is available, an option previously offered to vendors. Mayor Sita Sahu indicated that work on a permanent vending zone would commence after the monsoon season. Until then, vendors remain in a state of uncertainty due to the persistent flooding of the riverbank.
