In total, the two trains were carrying around 800 passengers, but none are said to be in life-threatening condition. Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the crash was due to human error, with the Slovak Railways director Ivan Bednárik confirming that the express train had passed through a red light and moved into the wrong sector.
This is the second major train collision in Slovakia in the past month, following an incident on October 13th that left 91 people injured. The town of Pezinok, known for its viticulture and historical monuments, has now become the site of growing concerns over the safety of the country's rail system.
