Parents Forgive Driver After Son's Fatal Sharjah Crash
21 Feb
Summary
- Toddler Alan Rumi died in a freak accident in Sharjah.
- Parents chose forgiveness over blame for the driver involved.
- The child was named in memory of Alan Kurdi and Rumi.

A tragic accident in Sharjah has claimed the life of 22-month-old Alan Rumi, the son of an Indian expat couple from Kerala. The child's name was a poignant tribute, inspired by Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi, whose image once moved the world, and the mystic poet Rumi.
The freak accident occurred in a sandy parking lot near the family's residence. The toddler was playing with a friend when he ran after a cat and tragically entered the path of a car being driven out of the parking lot.
In an extraordinary act of compassion, the grieving parents have forgiven the Indian expat driver whose car struck their only child. They have formally informed the police that they do not wish to press charges, stating that punishing the driver would not help them recover from their loss.
The parents emphasized that the accident was a result of momentary lapses in attention from all sides, including their own. They shared that the driver, who was promptly released, is awaiting further court procedures, with his passport retained. They hope their experience encourages greater caution on the roads to prevent similar incidents.
Alan Rumi was buried in Dubai the day after the accident, and his parents have since returned to India. Their plans for celebrating Ramadan and Umrah were tragically altered, as were their long-term aspirations to settle permanently in the UAE.
