At least 37 people have died in Pakistan due to heavy monsoon rainfall triggering flash floods and landslides. The regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab have experienced severe damage to homes, crops, livestock, and roads. Gujranwala and Sialkot recorded exceptionally high rainfall, with 245mm and 139mm respectively.
The Chenab River's water levels have risen, with Marala Headworks experiencing moderate flood levels. This surge follows a substantial increase in the release of excess water from India. Landslides have blocked key communication routes like the Wana-Gomal Zam Road in Lower South Waziristan, while flash floods have damaged agricultural land.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20 deaths were reported, including two drownings in the Tochi River. Landslides have also impacted roads and infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan, with the Astore Valley Road closed. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts continued rain in KP until July 23 and warns of possible glacial lake outburst floods in GB until July 26.
