PA Winter Storm: A Resounding Success
27 Jan
Summary
- Governor Shapiro declared the commonwealth's storm response a victory.
- Nearly 25 inches of snow fell in Jennerstown, Somerset County.
- Pennsylvania avoided the worst of the storm's freezing rain and power outages.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll celebrated the commonwealth's handling of a recent massive winter storm as a significant victory. Thousands of PennDOT workers, operating over 2,600 plow trucks and utilizing more than 500,000 tons of salt, worked diligently to keep roads clear.
Governor Shapiro specifically thanked the public for cooperating by staying off the roads, which greatly aided the clearing efforts. While some schools and businesses experienced closures or delayed openings on Monday, the state's response prevented the severe freezing rain and extensive power outages seen elsewhere.
The storm, which moved across the nation, dropped between 8 and 12 inches of snow across most of Pennsylvania. The highest accumulation reported was nearly 25 inches in Jennerstown, Somerset County. Power outages were minimal compared to southern regions, with about 2,200 customers affected as of Monday afternoon.
