Orlando Police Release Fatal Crash Video After Delay
10 Sep
Summary
- Orlando PD released surveillance video of fatal crash involving an officer.
- Florida law initially prevented public release of the private business's footage.
- Officer McKuhen, involved in the crash, received an 80-hour suspension.

The Orlando Police Department has released surveillance video connected to a fatal crash in January involving an officer. This footage, from a 7-Eleven, was initially withheld due to a Florida law that classifies private business security recordings as confidential during investigations.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith authorized the release now that the investigation is complete, aiming to offer the public more context. The crash involved Officer Andrew McKuhen and 92-year-old Milagros Ortiz, a passenger who died from blunt force trauma.
An internal affairs investigation determined Officer McKuhen did not violate the law, finding he was pursuing another vehicle at the time of the crash at 32 mph. The State Attorney's Office declined to press charges against the officer.
Officer McKuhen received an 80-hour suspension and has since returned to full duty. Milagros Ortiz's family has filed a $92 million wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Orlando.
