18 Feb
Summary
- Four firefighters injured battling large Ranger Road fire.
- Ranger Road fire consumed 145,000 acres with zero containment.
- Numerous structures destroyed across Oklahoma and Kansas.

Wildfires, fueled by strong winds, raged across the Oklahoma Panhandle and into southwest Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday, leading to firefighter injuries and the destruction of numerous structures. The Ranger Road fire in Beaver County, Oklahoma, rapidly expanded to approximately 145,000 acres with no containment as of Wednesday morning.
Four firefighters sustained injuries while combatting the blaze in Oklahoma, with three injured in a truck rollover and one in a separate incident. In Kansas, Clark County also reported multiple firefighter injuries, with two requiring transport to Wichita for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
Communities experienced significant disruption, including evacuations in areas of Woodward and Tyrone, Oklahoma. While some evacuation orders were lifted by Wednesday morning as crews gained ground, officials warned of continued dangerous fire weather conditions. Two U.S. Department of Agriculture buildings in Woodward were among the destroyed structures.
Aerial firefighting assets were grounded due to high winds and smoke, prompting Oklahoma officials to prepare an emergency declaration for out-of-state assistance. Additional forestry resources and air support from Texas were deployed to aid containment efforts. Elevated fire danger is anticipated to continue through Thursday.
