A wedding procession in Odisha's Dhenkanal district was marred by a tragic accident late last night. A Mahindra XUV carrying wedding guests, known as baraatis, veered off the road near a bend and plunged into a pond. The incident occurred as the group was traveling from Bangursingh village to Indupur village for a wedding ceremony.
Tragically, five passengers drowned in the submerged vehicle before they could be rescued. Two individuals managed to escape the sinking SUV. The deceased have been identified as Ram Sahu, Avinash Sahu, Rakesh Kumar Sahu, Chandrakant Swain, and Abhijeet Sahu, who was the groom's cousin.
Local villagers rushed to the scene and worked to pull the vehicle out of the pond. Police from the Dhenkanal Sadar police station arrived and transported the bodies for post-mortem examinations. An investigation has been launched to determine the accident's cause, including potential factors like poor visibility, speeding, or mechanical failure. The community is now mourning the loss of life during what should have been a joyous occasion.
