Power restoration efforts continue in Northeast Mississippi following Winter Storm Fern, with thousands of households still in the dark over a week later. As of Sunday morning, more than 9,000 out of nearly 28,000 tracked households in Tippah County lacked electricity.
Tippah Electric Power Association reported on Sunday evening that crews had restored power to approximately 2,000 homes that day. The utility expressed optimism, noting "steady success" and the arrival of additional crews from other cooperatives to aid in the lengthy restoration process.
In Oxford, most of the city had power restored by Sunday morning, with only 99 customers still affected. This was a significant improvement from the over 700 outages reported at the start of the weekend. Crews worked diligently to restore connections, overcoming challenges from low temperatures affecting "cold loads."
Despite progress in many areas, over 33,200 households and businesses across the state were still without power as of Sunday morning. Statewide, the total number of affected households and businesses exceeded 55,000, indicating a widespread impact from the winter storm.
