Raksha Bandhan Rush Sparks Noida Traffic Chaos
27 Aug
Summary
- Major Noida and Ghaziabad roads experienced severe congestion on Thursday.
- Commuters faced extended travel times due to inadequate traffic management.
- Waterlogged stretches in Ghaziabad further slowed down traffic flow.

Thousands of individuals traveling from Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad to their hometowns for Raksha Bandhan encountered extensive traffic congestion on Thursday. Key routes such as the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Sector 62, Pari Chowk, and the DND Flyway experienced prolonged snarls, significantly increasing travel durations for commuters.
The inadequate traffic management and lack of effective advisories were cited as major contributors to the day-long ordeal. Vehicles heading towards Agra, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and other districts faced considerable delays, with tailbacks extending for kilometers. The pressure on Delhi-bound routes, including the Chilla Border and Kalindi Kunj, was particularly high.
In Ghaziabad, similar traffic woes plagued commuters, with NH-9, Lal Kuan, and areas near Indirapuram experiencing long queues. Waterlogged sections in Mohan Nagar and under the RRTS station exacerbated the congestion. Despite diversions for goods vehicles on NH-9, the road saw increased pressure from public transport seekers.
Commuters like Sanjeev Kumar, traveling to Kanpur, expressed frustration over spending a significant portion of their leave stuck in traffic, waiting hours for buses. The situation at bus stops like Lal Kuan was chaotic, with crowded platforms and overcrowded buses making travel difficult for many heading home for the festival.
