In the Sicilian town of Niscemi, firefighters have been instrumental in rescuing pets from homes evacuated due to a significant landslide. A four-kilometer stretch of hillside collapsed, placing the town, built on unstable ground, at extreme risk. Residents are being escorted back into the evacuated "red zone" to retrieve personal belongings and rescue their animals, with many expressing deep emotional distress.
Pino Terzo Di Dio was seen in tears as his parrots were safely carried out by emergency personnel. The 53-year-old expressed gratitude, hoping kind-hearted individuals would care for his seven-to-thirteen-year-old cockatiels and parakeet. Firefighter Franco Turco reported the rescue of numerous dogs, cats, and now parrots, with efforts underway to save horses in fields below the town. Emergency teams have completed 80 missions retrieving items from the red zone, which extends 150 meters from the cliff face.
