Two average speed cameras are now live along the A5004 Long Hill, a significant road connecting Buxton and Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire. These cameras are situated in Fernilee, enforcing a 40mph speed limit on a stretch between the former village hall and the Shady Oak pub.
This deployment is a component of a broader £3.1 million initiative funded by the Government's Safer Roads Fund. The initiative aims to improve road safety across Derbyshire. Councillor Charlotte Hill noted that speed limits have not changed, emphasizing that the cameras encourage consistent safe driving.
An additional five cameras will be installed on grey poles along the A5004 later this year, pending final connections and checks. These will cover other sections of the route, including 50mph zones and areas near Buxton and Whaley Bridge. Further safety enhancements planned include new barriers, improved road markings, sign reviews, vegetation clearing, resurfacing, and new pedestrian facilities.
