Nepal House Defies Devastating Floodwaters

In Dhunge Bazaar, Nepal, the Pyakurel family's home has become known as the "miracle green house" after surviving a ferocious flood. The disaster, caused by a glacier collapse, unleashed a torrent of water and debris that devastated the region. The family was trapped on their roof for over an hour, watching their home nearly succumb to the raging waters.

Miraculously, the house stood firm, a solitary structure amidst a wasteland. Online images of the resilient home quickly went viral, drawing visitors to witness the phenomenon. While the first two stories sustained damage, the upper floors and roof remained largely intact, including water tanks and plants.

The floods have claimed over 1200 lives in Nepal, with thousands missing and countless homes destroyed. Communications and transportation infrastructure have been severely impacted, complicating rescue efforts. The Pyakurel family, though temporarily relocated, expressed gratitude for their survival and the safety of their grandson, who was at school.

Family patriarch Chhatra Bahadur Pyakurel believes the house's deep-anchored pillars and perhaps divine intervention protected it. Despite significant damage to the lower floors and the loss of important documents, the family's reunion brought a measure of relief amidst the grim reality of the disaster.
